We won a Fantastic for Families award!

We're proud to announce that we won the Best Age-Friendly Welcome award at this year's Fantastic for Families Awards for our contribution to arts and culture for older people during 2017.

A place to meet for all ages, we're offering a wide range of activities for older people, ranging from creative classes to age-friendly theatre. Our Matinee Lunch Club programme offers 10 events each year providing subsidised tickets and hospitality for local care homes, sheltered housing groups and day care centres. Events range from theatre matinees to exhibitions and interactive performances, with groups attending supported by artsdepot’s Community Champion. In 2016 – 2017, 244 hot lunches were served to socially isolated older people as part of the scheme. artsdepot’s Dance Group for over 60’s and Creative Circle are consistently popular in the community; the latter recently engaged with the London-wide 100 Banners project, commemorating the Suffrage movement, and our artist residency programme.

Judges commended our practical efforts to remove barriers to develop and deliver wholesome, accessible age-friendly programming: “artsdepot have really embraced being an Age-Friendly venue. They have researched into the barriers - access, isolation, transport, price, and found practical solutions and partners to help deliver, together with developing their programming offer to older people.”

We were also shortlisted for Best Family Venue, the award that we won at last year's awards.

Fantastic for Families began in 2013 as the national Family Arts Festival before becoming a year-round event listings service for families in 2017. Voted for by a panel of expert judges from the arts sector, the Fantastic for Families Awards recognise the fantastic organisations who put on excellent events, welcome families into their building, think about the needs of older visitors, and consider the caring responsibilities of their staff.
