Live Long & Die Out is a live-scored conversation in sound between an audience and four singers, that uses music and sound to think about human reproduction and population growth. Taking the playfully anarchistic ideas of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement as a departure point, the project asks its audience provocatively and compassionately to respond to and reflect upon ideas around why we have children, and how and if we could decide to stop having children as a step towards climate sustainability.

Melanie used the Creation Space residency to begin to answer some of the project's core questions, to write early draft ideas for the score and to collaborate with singers to begin to make the sound world of the piece. She also hosted a number of open rehearsals and debates with staff and visitors to the building, to discuss the ideas and form of the project and work with their input.
