Rachel Barnett-Jones

Rachel Barnett Jones poses for a selfie in a theatre auditorium. The seats behind her are blue velvet. Rachel faces the camera with a smile. She has short-mid length brown hair and is wearing glasses and a blue plaid shirt.

Rachel Barnett-Jones is a prolific theatre writer with 20 years of experience. She has written over 70 commissioned works for stage and screen, including musicals and operas which have toured internationally.

She has worked with many theatres and production companies around the globe, including: Chichester Festival Theatre, York Theatre Royal, Magic Light, and Beakus. She also runs workshops and gives lectures in small scale theatre production, fundraising and creative writing.

During the residency Rachel will be continuing to develop her new play, Backward Children (working title) – about her own family’s involvement in the research behind the free school milk acts of the 1930s. Supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation, Rachel realised that the next step for this play was to work with a director and some actors to lift the play off the page and throw some ideas around in a rehearsal room. Rachel is exceedingly delighted with, and grateful for, the support from artsdepot as it means a lot to be part of a brilliant cohort of other artists and theatre makers.
