When she was 10 years old Britney Spears inspired her to form my own pop group, BabyFaceBland (they were kinda a big deal at my primary school). At the beginning of 2019, Claire started reading up on Britney again and began thinking about celebrity, surveillance and privacy invasion more seriously (wanted and unwanted). She began to notice CCTV cameras and questioned whether they made me feel safe. Did she want them to see her, or didn’t she?

Piece of Me draws parallels between Britney’s well-known invasion of privacy and our own daily privacy invasions that largely go unnoticed. Featuring a reunion of her childhood pop group BabyFaceBland It asks the question: if aggressive surveillance continues and we continue to treat it as ordinary, what effects will this have on us? Is our story so different from Britney's? And what can we do to change this?

Claire is a performer, writer and artist creating research driven shows that explore the narcissism of contemporary culture, both its pleasures and consequences. Her work is political, cringe-funny and plays with meta narratives blending autobiography with fiction.
