Commission for a filmmaker to develop a short film celebrating Nepalese heritage, Gurkha history, and local stories for Light + Flight Festival 2026.

Burnt Oak Nepalese Community (BONC) and artsdepot, are seeking to commission a filmmaker to develop a new short film celebrating Nepalese heritage, Gurkha history, and everyday life in Burnt Oak, West Hendon, and Colindale.

Commissioned as part of Barnet Council’s Light + Flight programme supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this is a community-led, participatory opportunity for an artist with a strong collaborative practice and a sensitive approach to storytelling.

The commissioned filmmaker will work closely with the Burnt Oak Nepalese Community to co-create a short film celebrating Nepalese heritage, Gurkha history, and everyday life in Barnet. This participatory role involves facilitating workshops, gathering intergenerational stories, and collaborating with community members to shape the film’s themes and approach.

The filmmaker will plan and deliver filming, capture key moments including interviews and community events, producing a final short film with subtitles. This is an opportunity for a culturally sensitive, collaborative artist who values community voice and creative co-authorship, contributing to Barnet’s Light + Flight Festival 2026.

To be considered for this commission, please send a short letter outlining your interest in the project and how you meet the personal specification detailed in the Information Pack (downloadable below), your CV, and any samples of your work to participation@artsdepot.co.uk

The deadline for submitting applications is Monday 13 July, 10am
