A postcard journey through Barnet
Led by artist Emma Tominey, From Barnet with Love takes inspiration from an important moment in Barnet’s history. In 1911, the first official British airmail service flew from Hendon Aerodrome to Windsor, carrying commemorative postcards and envelopes.
More than a century later, the project is reimagining the postcard as a way to capture life across Barnet today. Historic postcards from Barnet Local Studies Archive and the RAF Museum provide a starting point, inviting residents to explore how local places have changed and add their own stories to the borough’s living history.
Postcards made at the Activation Stations will join contributions created through workshops with schools, community groups, and residents across Barnet. Together, they will form a collective portrait of the borough – sharing its places, people, memories, and hopes – and contribute to a public exhibition at the RAF Museum.
