Meet the Dancers - Joss Arnott Dance
| Wed 7 Oct 2015
We caught up with Lauren Wilson, Emily Pottage and Alice Shepherdon, three of the dancers who are part of Joss Arnott Dance, and will be performing alongside percussion legend Dame Evelyn Glennie in new triple bill 5|0 at artsdepot on Tue 3 Nov.
When asked how they first got into dance, Alice told us, “My first memory of dance was performing in a show at the age of 3, singing and dancing to "How much is that doggy in the window". From then on I loved to perform, whether it being on stage or to family and friends at home in the living room. I also remember my mum taking me to watch the Northern Ballet Company many times at Hull New Theatre as I loved watching their ballets.” Lauren, also from Hull said, “I have always been around dance as my mum was a dancer and has had her own dance school for over 30 years! So I always remember going to work with her and watching the older girls dance. I've danced since I could walk!”
Talk soon turned to 5|0 and Lauren said, “I love working with Joss, there is always such a great atmosphere in the studio. Working with new people is always exciting too, it will be amazing having Evelyn live on stage with us, what an experience to perform with someone so experienced in her field!”
The excitement of performing with Dame Evelyn, and the rest of team, is definitely shared by her colleague Emily, “I’m most excited about working with a new group of dancers and collaborating with James Keane and Dame Evelyn Glennie. It is such an inspiration to watch amazing dancers in the studio and I can’t wait to be on stage dancing with Evelyn’s live music. I think audiences are going to have a fantastic evening. The programme has three very different pieces, and I think that everyone will find something they love about the production. Having live music and dance fused together on stage is definitely a unique thing and something which is hugely exciting.”
And if you’re still wondering what to expect from the show, Alice told us, “I hope the audience will create a connection between us dancers, musicians and the surroundings. It would be great for them to experience the contrasts between each piece, emotionally and physically, leaving the performance on high energy and hopefully wanting more.” Lauren agreed, “There'll be a great vibe from the get go” and if you’re joining us at artsdepot you’ll be amongst plenty of people supporting her, “The London show will be a big one for us, I have lived down here for 7 years now so I know all my closest friends will be there”
Lauren has been with the company since 2012, Emily and Alice joined Joss Arnott Dance for the creation and tour of 5|0.
