Figs in Wigs on their residency
| Fri 20 Apr 2018
During their residency in our Creation Space (Tue 17 - Fri 27 Apr), we've caught up with Figs in Wigs, who've told us all about themselves and their project.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Figs in Wigs are an all female, five strong performance company who make work that is a unique mix of theatre, dance and comedy. We make theatre shows, club performance and music. Whilst engaging with socially conscious queries in the studio (and on the stage), we also see our collaboration as a political exercise in itself. At the core of this practice is the desire for collectivity. We are interested in exploring how we can make theatre work in a democratic manner and how this in turn can help us reflect upon the world in which we live.
How would you describe the work that you create?
Our work uses humour, irreverence, DIY aesthetics and drag as critical tools in making socially aware performance.
What will you be working on during your residency at artsdepot?
A feminist live art retelling of Little Women. Purists beware!
What elements of the project will you be developing while you’re here?
Structure. Adaptation. New dance routine. Costume.
What’s the most useful thing to have with you in the rehearsal space?
All of us and free coffee (thank you!)
