Access provisions at Lived Fiction

Stopgap have been the exemplar of diversity and inclusion on stage for two decades, but a global leader of inclusive dance has to do more than showcase Disabled talent. It is time for us to level up and make dance accessible to the widest possible range of audiences.

We want the performers and the audience to gain a shared-experience of an inclusive world and revel in the joy of different people cohabiting the theatre space.

Lived Fiction aims to do this through intertwining audio description, captioning, projection art, and relaxed environment with world-class choreography.

Lived Fiction Visual Guide

Lived Fiction Audio Flyer

Audio Described performances are designed for blind or visually impaired audience members. The actors’ dialogue is incorporated with live commentary that explains what is happening on stage. Audience members can listen to this via a headset and this doesn’t affect other audience members’ experience of the show.

Where possible, we also schedule a pre-show Touch Tour on the same day as an Audio Described performance, allowing audiences to explore the set and costumes and immerse themselves in the imaginary world of the show.

At a captioned performance the words are displayed on a screen (or screens), placed near the stage or in the set and can be seen at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

Relaxed performances are open to everyone but are particularly suitable for people with sensory, communication or learning disabilities, and anyone who would benefit from a less formal environment. Audience members should feel comfortable making noise and moving around as and when they need to.

Touch Tours give blind or visually impaired audience members an opportunity to go up on stage and touch parts of the set, props and costumes to help immerse themselves in the imaginary world on stage. They can also be attended by anyone who would benefit from familiarising themselves with the auditorium and set before attending a performance.

Touch Tours usually take place 1 hour before the performance start time, but please check with the Box Office as this can vary.

To attend a Touch Tour, please contact the Box Office on 020 8369 5454 or email boxoffice@artsdepot.co.uk at least 48 hours before the touch tour.
