During their residency, Blackhorse Roadshow (Sarah Meadows & Jennifer Claessen) worked on an intimate new piece of theatre for adults and babies: To a Foal.
Blackhorse Roadshow is a small collective of North-East London theatre-makers who identify as women and mothers. Sarah Meadows is an award-winning director and was recently on the prestigious Old Vic 12 programme. Gabby Wong is a performer. She is an accomplished actor on stage and in film and television. Jennifer Claessen is a writer & producer of work for children (THE OCTOBER WITCHES, UClan Publishing).
During their residency, they worked on an intimate and unique piece of theatre for a small audience of parent-carer / pre-crawling baby pairs. Their groundbreaking storytelling combined a spoken narrative for adults and accompanying shadow puppetry and music for babies.
The company’s aim is to reach isolated or struggling parents / carers in a new way, combining the best of interactive ‘baby sensory’ and theatre to tell the beautiful, overwhelming story of becoming a parent with healing dramatherapy-inspired techniques and humour. A monologue about post-partum experience, particularly mental health, will be performed while the audience have the choice to actively engage with the puppetry and music of the show themselves.
