Come along to see The Windrush Quilt created and designed by Heritage Community Crafts C.I.C., based in Barnet.

The Windrush Quilt was hand sewn by African and Caribbean Seniors who travelled to the UK during the 1950s-70s to work in the UK after World War 2. 32 Quilt making Workshops took place at Community groups in London, including the Barnet African Caribbean Association.

It is to remember their occupations and experiences over that time and throughout their lives. They worked as Nurses, in factories such as Hat-Making, Ballet Shoe Making and Bag Making. They started small businesses, worked as Bus Conductors, Shorthand Copy Typists and studied for exams as well as many other occupations.

Materials used: Printed cotton, goldtone embroidery thread, beads, gold spacer and ring beads, buttons, a donated piece of crochet.

In collaboration with:
• The Caribbean Social Forum
• The Barnet African Caribbean Association
• The Nubian Life Centre
• Waltham Forest, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica Twinning Association
• The Enfield Caribbean Association
• Afro-Caribbean Elders Association

Made possible with funding from: The Heritage Fund
