Circulate followed the legacy of the Olympics and showcased the best in outdoor arts at outer London arts venues.
artsdepot was part of a consortium of venues that came together to make Circulate happen. Working in partnership with The Albany, Watermans, Tara Arts, Harrow Arts Centre and Millfield Theatre, the 3 year programme was funded through Arts Council England's strategic touring programme.
In 2013 Circulate brought us Spin Cycle, a spectacular outdoor street show for town centres and high streets. The performance took the form of a journey from market stall bargain hunting to a dangerous game of extreme shopping that ends in tragedy! It was created by Emergency Exit Arts, and involved young people from our Street Arts Academy.
Cirque Bijou and Nutkhut delivered an outdoor performance entitled Source at each venue in 2014. The performance incorporated a historically important character from each location. For artsdepot it was Joseph Grimaldi, the English actor, comedian and dancer, who became the most popular English entertainer of the Regency era.
In the final year all six venues worked with French artist Olivier Grossetete to build their own The People’s Tower. During a series of workshops for children and grown-ups sections of the tower were created and then on Friday 7 August the big Build and Demolition event saw the temporary tower assembled using only human power and cardboard boxes!
