Maisie Newman, Ben Osborn and Elana Binysh are three artists who have known each other for a long time, and were collaborating for the first time during their artsdepot Artist Residency.
The group works across multiple disciplines – sound art, poetry, choreography, dramaturgy, animation – and are unified by a desire to make poetic, loud and thoughtful shows pieces of art that sit somewhere between theatre, live art and mood pieces.
They are also unified by their Jewishness – each having discovered and reconnected with their Jewish identities at different points, from birth (but lapsed) to one year ago (and curious). In this piece of work they explored assimilation and cultural erosion as part of the British Jewish identity. They spent the R&D time developing a language for their collaboration and playing with ritual, the sharing of knowledge/oral histories, food and queer deconstructions of religious texts.
