Touring Into Schools

A distorted image of a man in a white shirt standing with his arms raised. He holds a pained expression on his face.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, John Lyon's Charity and Barnet Council, we're touring high quality, professional theatre to Barnet schools, introducing students and young people to the excitement of live performance.

This November, artsdepot is offering Secondary Schools, Sixth Forms and Colleges in Barnet the chance to host a specially adapted version of Rhum + Clay’s acclaimed production Mistero Buffo, followed by a one-hour theatre workshop – for free.

Written by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Dario Fo, Mistero Buffo is a comic and fast-moving look at society, inequality, and everyday life through the eyes of a travelling storyteller.

This 60-minute adaptation for schools, directed by Nicholas Pitt and performed by Julian Spooner, is a solo physical theatre performance that brings over one hundred characters to the stage.

The show will then be followed by a workshop for students that both supports Drama Curriculum Devising Modules as well as nurturing confidence, creativity, critical thinking and communication skills for all students (including those who are not directly studying drama).

This free two-hour performance and workshop package will be available to book during November 2025. Workshops can either focus on devising from scratch or making a text physical. Alternative formats can be discussed to fit the school’s timetable.

Bookings are first-come, first-served, so it is advised to book as soon as possible to secure your school’s preferred day. To book a performance, please email roisin.omata@artsdepot.co.uk.

Content Advisory: Satirical themes relating to power, authority, and belief. Recommended for KS4 and KS5.

This offer is part of Barnet & Culture for Youth’s Touring into Schools Programme.

This project aims to ensure that young people in Barnet, who may not otherwise get the opportunity to see a theatre performance, can connect to the performing arts and doors to opportunity can open as a result.

Past Performances
In November 2024, we had Boxville performing to 9 schools across 5 days. The show used sustainable recycled cardboard and puppetry to create an adventure encountering paper dragons, corrugated pirates and space robots!

“It was wonderful. Highly engaging and something different for our pupils. All students thoroughly enjoyed the performance as well as the interactive elements. They were a part of the story and went on a journey with the production group, which was fantastic. They developed the confidence to create, the wonderful memories. A brilliant show.” – Headteacher from our Touring Schools Programme
