Call out! ‘Pas-de-deux’ Workshop

Join us for a short workshop at Arts Depot where we will be playing with fitness watches and technology to see what our heartbeats can power, and how we can connect to each other.

What happens to your heartbeat when you dance, when someone makes you laugh, when you remember an old friend? What does our heartbeat tell us about community?

We are looking to meet people of all ages and abilities to come and explore the technology with us. Eventually, we will be creating a large-scale performance for an entire community to engage with using this technology. In the workshop, you will wear a sports watch, which is programmed to read your heartbeat, and we will play with how this can power lights, projection, and music. We would love to hear from you about what it’s like to play with your own heartbeat, and what its like to play with someone else’s heartbeat.

We will work in pairs, and in groups to explore moments of connection, through a series of guided devising exercises from Jennifer’s practice as a choreographer and theatremaker. We will move together, talk a little, and devise moments of performance around themes of connection, memory, and community.
