Rachel Bellman and Eden Tredwell are London-based musical theatre writers who are collaborating on a new musical alongside creative producer Tanya Truman.
Individually Rachel and Eden’s work crosses from musicals to plays to pop music, while Tanya’s passion is for original stories with female and / or Jewish narratives. During the residency they will be collaborating for the first time as a trio on the four-hander musical Pretty Poison.
Pretty Poison tells the story of the Jewish immigrants and female entrepreneurs behind the cosmetics trade of 16th century Renaissance Italy. Inspired by true stories, it follows two friends who use their inherited knowledge to start a cosmetics business. But when a patron asks for access to their poisonous ingredients to murder their husband, the business takes an even darker turn.
Featuring a contemporary score, Pretty Poison interrogates the gap between who we are and how we look, alongside ambition, assimilation, and the nature of beauty.
This residency is supported in collaboration with Tsitsit Fringe Festival 2024
