Deli Segal & Dominic Garfield

Ray and Tracy Bergman have a secret: they’ve broken Jewish law, cremated beloved Nana Anita and stashed her ashes in an Amazon box. When their adult children discover they’ve staged a “sham shiva”, the family must navigate explosive intergenerational rifts whilst being haunted by the fabulous spirit of the family matriarch.

It’s an honest, biting look at a family forced to confront their heritage, their traditions and each other.

Led by co-creators Deli Segal (Pickle, Soho Theatre) & Dominic Garfield (HighRise Entertainment), The Last Jew of Whitechapel is inspired by their contemporary Jewish experiences alongside access to a rare and unseen archive of family letters from relatives of legendary playwright Arnold Wesker.

This bold new collaboration between Deli and Dom draws on their extensive work in developing new writing, offering a fresh perspective of contemporary Jewish storytelling.

The project has been supported by Arts Council England, JW3 and HighRise.
