Sarah ‘Rain’ Kolawole

The style of Sarah’s writing tends to be poetic and the stories which interest Sarah are often reflected in lived experience. These include but are not limited to: the care system, sibling relationships, separation and loss, ‘race’, identity and work with and for young disabled audiences.

During the residency, Sarah plans to focus on the second phase of the development of AYO, a children’s multisensory theatre piece. Ayo goes on a family holiday to Lagos, Nigeria and meets an enthralling butterfly on the way to the beach. The butterfly distracts her and they go on a journey together overcoming traffic, trips, falls and the unfamiliar sights and smells. Ayo also has Cerebral Palsy.

Sarah wants to create and tour theatre which allows children with different needs and modes of engaging to be able to enjoy the same story whilst also creating space for representation!
