John Livesey is a writer, director and dramaturg, working in the UK and Europe.
He is interested in making inter-disciplinary work that is both politically and aesthetically bold. John has trained with StoneCrabs Young Directors, and the Archa+ Centre for Documentary Theatre in Czechia. In 2024, he was selected by the European Theatre Convention to take part in an artist residency at the Deutsches Theater, Berlin.
He most recently worked on Tending, which premiered at Edinburgh Festival in 2024 and had a regional tour in Spring this year. John is also currently studying a PhD with University College London and is the recipient of an AHRC research scholarship. His words have appeared in Jacobin, Little White Lies, and the Guardian.
At artsdepot, John will be working on FAGCENT: an original play investigating the phenomenon of the ‘gay voice’. Mixing verbatim theatre, live-cinema, lip-syncing, and sign-language, John is on a mission to understand why so many gay men feel self-conscious about the way they speak.
