HighRise Theatre’s The Concrete Jungle Book heads to Edinburgh
Published: Mon 3 Jul 2017
We’re excited to be supporting HighRise Theatre present The Concrete Jungle Book at the 2017 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
A hip hop musical which reimagines Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, the production features live rap music, grime, spoken word and high energy physicality. It has been developed in tandem with a year-long workshop programme for young people with experience of homelessness. Run in collaboration with Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, the workshops involved over 30 young people aged 16 – 25.
Formed in July 2012, HighRise Theatre company members are Dominic Garfield (Artistic Director) Joseph Barnes-Phillips (Artistic Director) Gerel Falconer, Oliver Tunstall and Fahd Segujja. The collective aims to spark conversations and build bridges between forgotten communities by representing the rhythm of the streets. With family roots spreading five continents, they have a unique approach to telling stories, creating theatre which is dynamic, honest and grounded in their experiences.
The Concrete Jungle Book is on at Edinburgh Fringe from Friday 4 – Monday 14 August at ZOO (Sanctuary). Book tickets here.
Catch the Edinburgh Preview of The Concrete Jungle Book at artsdepot on Saturday 29 July. Book tickets here.
