The Marxist in Heaven performed by Stagecoach C&R

The Marxist in Heaven by Hattie Naylor, performed by Stagecoach Chorleywood & Rickmansworth.

The Marxist in Heaven is a play that does exactly what its title page says it’s going to do. The eponymous protagonist ‘wakes up’ in paradise and once they get over the shock of this fundamental contradiction of everything they believe in...they get straight back to work...and continue their lifelong struggle for equality and fairness for all...even in death.

Funny, playful, provocative, pertinent and jam-packed with discourse, disputes, deities and disco dancing by the bucketful, this upbeat buoyant allegory shines its holy light on globalization and asks the salient questions – who are we and what are we doing to ourselves?...And what conditioner do you use on your hair?

A note from Stagecoach Chorleywood & Rickmansworth:
This performance is our version of Hattie Naylor’s play having been rehearsed and presented entirely on Zoom. It represents the process of theatre making with young people where the end result is an unknown place.  We asked our students to trust in the process when everything around them is uncertain. We bonded over Zoom and produced the entire piece online. It represents a ray of sunshine and hope during a sea of sorrow. Our team got over their fear of the tech, their disappointment at another lockdown and every week they came together to support and grow as artists. They inspire me.
