Residency Dates: Mon 23 Feb - Fri 6 Mar 2015
Spiltmilk Dance have been sticking a big fat ray of sunshine into the world of contemporary dance since 2006. Co - Directors Sarah Boulter and Adele Wragg aim to bring fun and intelligence in equal measure and entertain intergenerational audiences and participants with a unique brand of intricate and charming performance.
Spiltmilk are fascinated by the things within popular culture that unite people from different walks of life; the trends we follow, the food we eat, the songs we listen to and the dances we do on a night out, and this drives the content of the company's work. They love working with people of all ages, to bring a fresh, down to earth approach to dance in schools and community settings, and encouraging participants to get creative.
During their residency at artsdepot, Spiltmilk carried out research and development for a new performance piece - Blast From The Past
Blast From The Past will take audiences on a journey through the music, TV, fads and fashions that have shaped British popular culture over the last 60+ years. Spiltmilk will create a short dance (or ‘episode’) for every year since the recorded music charts began in 1952 right up to present day, that’s 63 episodes in total! Each episode will be performed to the top selling song from the year and the content will be inspired by significant pop culture trends or events that took place. The company will seek out frivolous fads and fashions, historical events and hysterical clothes, all those moments of madness that the nation has been swept up in over the last 60 years.
Blast From The Past will be framed around gameshow / quiz format to give everyone the chance to test their skill and knowledge when it comes to all things pop.
This residency is supported by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation
