Pebble Gorge begin their R&D Residency

| Mon 16 May 2016

As Pebble Gorge begin their two week Creation Space R&D residency, we caught up with them to find out a bit more about what they'll be working on during their time with us.

Can you tell us about Pebble Gorge?
Pebble Gorge is led by Emily Coleman and Jane McGibbon, two independent producers who have creative ideas and use each project as an opportunity to work with cutting-edge artists who are the best in their field. This ensures our work is of the highest quality and that we continue to develop different ways of approaching and making theatre.

How would you describe the work you create?
Pebble Gorge produce ambitious, exciting theatre based events for children and families by sending them on adventures to discover more about the world they live in.
We are interested in how the technology that children use every day can be used alongside theatre techniques to make engaging and exciting experiences.

What will you be working on during your residency at artsdepot?
During our residency we are aiming to explore ideas for a new studio show for children aged 4 - 6 years, which will take them on an interactive journey through a narrative that explores space. We aim to cast the audience as astronauts and allow them to explore the galaxy and stars using sound and headphones, immersing them in an imagined world where they are encouraged to make a playful physical response to a story, using projection onto surfaces that will respond to sound, movement and touch.

Which elements of the project will you be developing while you’re here?
We will be developing the narrative and form for the piece, as well as testing out some of our ideas with children and families. In particular we hope to explore their responses to the use of sound and projection.

What the most useful thing to have with you in the rehearsal room?
An open mind!
