My Dirty Secret!
An experimental installation by Kristina Veasey
Kristina Veasey invites you to share in her dirty secrets.
My Dirty Secret! is an experiential piece, borne from her frustration as a disabled person battling to keep up with the housework. Through attempts to maintain independence and a sense of control over her life, Kristina inadvertently began making friends with her enemy, the household dirt. The surprising results are celebrated through a vibrant, immersive installation. By combining the digital with the traditional, images of common household detritus have been transformed into stunning fabrics and furnishings.
Relax in the upholstered armchair; sit at the dining table; draw the curtains; open the mail and answer the telephone. A Through the Keyhole style TV programme will take you on an audio-visual exploration of your surroundings, whilst a soundscape fills the space with domestic sounds and captured conversations about mess and dirt. Through humour and surprise, the installation prompts visitors to observe the everyday in new ways.
Audio description, BSL interpretation, captions and text all form integral parts of the installation.
