NT Connections Workshop: Acting - Intro to Text & Character
In this workshop for young people aged 13 - 19 with director Alex Thorpe, we will look at how actors might choose to approach a play, search for and reveal the clues in a monologue or duologue to create well rounded, authentic and exciting characters.
Alex’s work includes: First Encounters: The Comedy of Errors, Three Tales from Ovid (RSC); The Remains of Logan Dankworth by Luke Wright (Norwich Arts Centre / UK Tour); Frankie Vah by Luke Wright (Underbelly / Soho Theatre / Paul Jellis Productions); Twelfth Night (Orange Tree Theatre); Lee Harvey Oswald (Finborough Theatre); Victoria, It Never Happened, The Suicide (Arts Ed); Romeo and Juliet (RWCMD).
Alex is a Learning Associate Practitioner at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Associate Artist at National Youth Theatre and Tutor at Open Door. He graduated from the Theatre Practice degree at the Central School of Speech and Drama and on the Theatre Directing Programme at Birkbeck College.

This workshop is part of the National Theatre Connections Festival 2021, two weeks of online workshops and performances celebrating the theatre-makers of tomorrow.
This workshop is for young people aged 13 - 19 only.
Please note: this workshop is running twice, you only need to book one session as the content will be the same in each.
It will be taking place on Zoom and will last for approximately 1hr 30 mins.
Here’s how you access the workshop:
1. We’ll send you the Zoom ID and password 1 hour before the workshop via email.
2. Make sure you have a device with Zoom downloaded and you’ve created a FREE account
3. When it’s time for the workshop to start, log into your Zoom account, input the meeting ID and password, turn on your audio and video camera and wait in the ‘waiting room’ until the host lets you in
Please keep your camera on during the workshop. And please note that photography and audio / visual recording is not permitted during the workshop
