Roots and Wings

A three year participatory arts programme involving refugees and asylum seekers, exiled artists and migrant communities living and working in the London Borough of Barnet. artsdepot is building and developing partnerships with organisations such as Barnet Refugee Service, Refugee Youth Project, and London Borough of Barnet Council alongside local primary and secondary schools to successfully deliver the work. Projects include a women’s group, girls group, schools workshops and residencies and half term workshops for under 13s and over 13s.

Aims

  • To engage refugees in Barnet in arts activities, helping them to learn about each other’s cultures and foster understanding and co-operation.
  • To provide free, accessible and safe activities, giving young people positive activities to be involved in.
  • To bring refugee’s together, to share experiences, make new friends, improve language and communication skills and learn new skills.
  • To give a voice to Barnet’s refugee’s through the arts. Ensuring all participants can fully contribute, despite any language barriers they may have.
  • To raise aspirations and confidence of participants
