Taking partThere are lots of different courses and workshops at artsdepot for young people to explore a range of art forms and develop creative skills: Ignite Membership SchemeFor young people aged 13 – 19, artsdepot’s Ignite membership scheme offers opportunities to get involved in a range of dance and drama activities, including weekly classes, holiday productions, masterclasses with visiting professional companies and reduced tickets for selected performances at artsdepot. For more details, visit our Ignite Scheme section or email ignite@artsdepot.co.uk. Signing ChoirThe artsdepot Signing Choir is a free project for young people aged 13 – 19. Open to hearing and hearing impaired participants, the group perform a range of songs including classic pop, show tunes and current hits. Combining singing and British Sign Language, this is a unique and exciting group. For more details, visit our Signing Choir section. Roots and WingsOur youth group meets every Thursday and is open to all young people who have recently arrived in the UK. They do a different arts project every term, chosen by the group in consultation with artsdepot. The group is run in partnership with Barnet Refugee Services and Arts Awards is featured as part of this project. For more information please email education@artsdepot.co.uk. Young ParentsWe are running an Arts Award course at children’s centres around Barnet for young parents aged 25 and under and their children. The course focuses on running arts activities for young children. For full details please email education@artsdepot.co.uk. CliveEach season artsdepot hosts Clive, a club night for young people aged 14 – 25 with learning disabilities. The evening features a dance floor; live DJs and VJs; a chillout space and games room; live acts performing; and a dedicated space for parents and carers. Young people can attend free VJ and DJ workshops leading up to the event, or get involved in the performances. Email education@artsdepot.co.uk for more information. Digital EnsembleDigital Ensemble is a dedicated music production group for young people aged 14 – 25 with learning disabilities which is free to join. Performing regularly at the Clive club nights (see above), the group write their own music, record tracks and produce videos. Email education@artsdepot.co.uk for more details. Courses & Classesartsdepot run a range of classes and courses for the public in a whole range of activities. From drama to dance, visual arts to creative writing, these classes are open to all. Our children’s classes are run for set age groups, whilst adult classes are open to anyone aged 16 or above. Enjoying & appreciating the artsartsdepot’s Apthorp Gallery showcases work by local, national and international artists in a range of media. Throughout the year, a selection of exhibitions are featured, including the annual Open, which offers opportunities for local artists to display their work in a professional gallery space. The gallery is open daily from 12 – 4pm (staying open later on evenings when there is a performance in the theatre) and is free to visit. (Please check with the Box Office on 020 8369 5454 for opening hours). There is also a range of performances to watch including music, theatre and dance. Members of artsdepot’s Ignite programme receive reduced tickets of just £5 for selection performances throughout the season, whilst a student discount rate is available for most shows. Meeting arts professionalsOn selected shows and exhibitions throughout the season, artsdepot hosts talks with the artists and performers involved in the creation of performances and artworks. You will find details about these talks listed in the artsdepot brochure or on our website on the relevant pages. artsdepot has also produced a careers advice pack for young people who are interested in working in the arts. This pack features dialogue with artists currently working in different fields of the arts, offering advice on routes to employment and what they have learnt through their experiences. This pack can be obtained by emailing education@artsdepot.co.uk. Volunteering or work placementartsdepot offers work experience to young people wanting to learn more about careers in the arts. For Year 10, 11 and 12 students, work experience is offered for a week in July and enables participants to engage with all departments of a busy arts centre. To find out how to apply, visit our vacancies page. The Apthorp gallery at artsdepot is staffed by volunteers who supervise the public in the space. Enquiries about becoming a gallery volunteers should be sent to gallery@artsdepot.co.uk. Many young people are employed by our Front of House department to work as stewards. This is a chance to get to see a variety of shows and exhibitions, whilst gaining customer service skills and being paid! Keep an eye on our vacancies page for when we are recruiting. Leadershipartsdepot has a youth panel made up of young people who offer guidance on the artistic programme and running of the venue.
